Momma bird has inspired me. Over the last few weeks, I’ve watched as she and Poppa bird have cared for their babies. They sit for hours without moving. They fight off cat assassins to protect their babies. But mostly they’ve spent time searching for food and feeding their babies.

And let me tell you, these are hungry babies. When momma or poppa fly away, this is what the babies look like. It’s a constant battle to keep them fed.

Makes me think of how I feed my own children. Yes, I cook for them. We try to maintain sit-down dinners around the dinner table 5-7 days a week. And yes, I cook most of those meals myself, with the exception of an occasion fend for yourself night or the we’re eating sandwiches while sitting at soccer or softball games days. No matter, it’s still my job as a mom to feed my kids. (Don’t read too much into that. Dads can and do feed their kids. I’m just talking about me here.)

Anyway, this momma bird has made me wonder. How do I feed my kids? By that I mean, what do I feed them besides food? Because, let’s get real, we spiritually and emotionally feed our children just as much as we physically feed them. Do I give them joy? Encouragement? Positivity? Love? Do they know God loves them? Do I show them how to be passionate and hard working? Or do I feed them the darker things in life? As a mom, it’s my job to feed them physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

And so I ask you, what do you feed your kids? And how do you feed them spiritually?
