I live in the part of New York State that is about as far from NYC as you can get. I love small town living. Granted, there’s not a ton to do, but the atmosphere and rural living is a joy. Every summer my family and I hike at Panama Rocks. It’s about a half-hour drive, but from my home, everything is a half-hour drive. The great thing about Panama Rocks is that from the road, it looks like nothing, merely a driveway, but once you’re in it, it’s an amazing geological formation with tunnels and cliffs that make you wonder at the beauty of the world around us.

As I was writing my Destiny by Design series, I had visited Panama Rocks with my husband. The structures made me think of the underground world I was creating with the Hidden City. I could see Micah and Kate traveling into the woods to find the entrance. I could imagine them hiding out until The Institute gave up looking. Even though there isn’t a town in Panama Rocks, one could imagine how there might be something hiding underneath.

In The Breeding Tree, the entrance to the Hidden City is disguised behind a large rock in the forest. Every rock I looked at could have been that rock. A place like this makes your mind go wild.

I even did my author photo shoot there because it fit so well with the theme of the book.
